Walking into the salon and figuring out what you need can be a daunting task. Sometimes learning a little bit about hair color can help relieve your nerves, especially if you’ve never colored your hair before. You may even decide that all over color isn’t right for you and you may want balayage or even highlights instead. 

So color comes in three different forms: semi-permanent (gloss), Demi-permanent and Permanent. Really, the difference is how it grows out. Are you thinking of doing a semi-permanent hair color or a color gloss? This is perfect for someone who wants to add depth and richness to their hair without being married to it! It usually lasts six to eight weeks depending on how often you shampoo. It gradually washes it without leaving a root line behind. Have a couple grey hairs?  No problem, the semi-permanent color should be able to cover or at least camouflage the couple grey hairs. The one thing semi-permanent can’t do is go lighter! Demi-permanent color.. what can you do? Do you have more than a couple grey hairs that are stubborn and can’t be covered with a semi-permanent? Do you not want to have a harsh root line? Demi might be the right match for you! Demi-permanent color is perfect for someone who is just starting to go grey and wants to cover them without the full commitment of a harsh root line. It grows out with a soft  blurred out line. You can also go a shade lighter than your natural color if you wanted a touch of brightness.

Okay ladies and gentleman, permanent color isn’t as scary as it sounds. It is diverse and offers maximum grey coverage. Looking to go lighter? You can lighten your hair up to three levels (your hairstylist can show you what this means). How often you will have to color your hair all depends on how fast it grows, how much grey you have and how much of your roots drives you crazy!
